PlasmaLeap has developed modular plasma reactors that produce ammonia and nitric acid using only air, water, and renewable electricity — enabling decentralised, on-farm nitrogen fertiliser production without fossil fuels. The technology addresses a critical inefficiency in global agriculture: conventional ammonia production (Haber-Bosch) accounts for a significant share of industrial CO₂ emissions, while farmers face volatile input costs and supply-chain risk. PlasmaLeap’s Series A (led by the Gates Foundation, Investible, and Yara Growth Ventures) will fund first-of-a-kind fertiliser hubs in New South Wales and Tasmania, with longer-term applications in sustainable fuels and industrial chemicals.
