We are delighted to announce that Peter Eckes, former Chief Technology Officer at BASF Agricultural Solutions, has joined the SVG Ventures | THRIVE team as a Senior Advisor
June 11, 2024- At SVG Ventures | THRIVE, Peter will play a key role in guiding and framing our company strategy, investment thesis and supporting the growth plans of SVG and our portfolio companies. He will advise on technical direction and trends, leverage his network to grow our customer and investor base, and participate in our Global Impact initiative.
Peter brings with him an impressive 25 years of global executive experience, having driven new business and innovation across a broad range of industries, including agriculture, nutrition, health, specialty chemical products, and industrial biotechnology. His proven track record in developing and implementing innovation strategies has been instrumental in building industry-leading R&D pipelines.
At BASF, Peter has led several large organizational transformations, enhancing R&D effectiveness and efficiency, optimizing technology portfolios, and R&D site footprints. His leadership extended globally, as he managed BASF’s 10 billion EUR Agricultural Solutions business R&D and Regulatory team with a 1 billion EUR R&D budget responsibility. He was also a pivotal member of BASF’s global Technology Leadership Team, steering the company’s innovation activities worldwide.
Peter’s extensive international experience, gained over 15 years working abroad, includes leading global teams and fostering the competitiveness of R&D by continuously driving the identification and implementation of new technologies. As a strong believer in open innovation, he expanded external collaborations with startups, academic institutions, and contract research organizations, resulting in a vast global scientific network.
Peter holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Frankfurt, Germany, and completed post-graduate studies in Biological Chemistry at Harvard University and MIT. Additionally, he has undertaken executive training in general management, finance, and marketing at INSEAD, Harvard University, and Michigan.
